Sigmund J. Pehel III
President
Siggy Pehel, known by many as "Siggy", serves as the President of the Glade Run Lake Conservancy. He has served in this role since the Conservancy's inception in August 2011.

Siggy received his B.A. in history and political science from Allegheny College in 1975. Then in 1984, he obtained a certificate in Human Resources Management, and in 1988, a Masters Degree in Public Administration, both from the University of Pittsburgh, the latter from the school of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA).

Siggy retired in 2009 after 33 years with the U.S. Postal Service where he worked as a project manager, curriculum designer/instructor, and Postmaster. During the first half of his career, Siggy's primary duty was lead instructor for postal service managers and supervisors. However, midway through his career, he shifted from administration to field operations. Siggy served as the Postmaster of Wilmerding, PA, New Brighton, PA, and finished his career as the Postmaster in Allison Park, PA.
After becoming a Postmaster in 1991, Siggy became active in the National Association of Postmasters of the United States (NAPUS) until his retirement. Siggy held every elected officer's chair in NAPUS for the state of Pennsylvania including secretary, treasurer, vice president, and president. He also served at the organization's national level and was elected twice as the NAPUS National Vice President from Pennsylvania. Siggy was appointed to numerous national committees in NAPUS, chairing policy, training, and development committees. He was the course designer and instructor for five training courses for NAPUS state presidents which were conducted in Washington D.C. for the NAPUS National Leadership Conferences.

Siggy has been active in the Mars area community of Butler County since the early 1980's, coaching over a combined 15 years for numerous sports including soccer, girl's slow and fast pitch softball, and ice hockey. He helped organize, develop, coach, and was the director of the Mars area developmental hockey program known as "Orbits". This new feeder hockey program that he helped to develop and directed for seven years, trained beginners from the elementary and middle schools in skating, passing, shooting, and positioning. Some of these Orbits went on to play high school hockey and won their first of many sectional titles in 2007. They eventually won the Penguins Cup, winner of Western Pennsylvania hockey, and back to back Pennsylvania state titles. The Mars High School coaching staff for those titles consisted of former developmental players he coached. Along with Siggy's wife, Linda, he was also a confirmation instructor for seven years for Holy Sepulcher Parish and involved in the youth group program for many years. He can be seen working the take-out kitchen at the Holy Sepulcher annual Bazaar.

In 2011, Siggy helped form the Glade Run Lake Conservancy (GRLC) and was elected President. Due to an unsafe earthen dam, Glade Run Lake was drained in 2011 and needed a new dam and spillway in order to refill the lake. Siggy was instrumental in forming the non-profit organization with nine other people as was responsible for writing the bylaws, policies, and mission and vision statements. With his leadership, the organization grew to over 2,000 members and over $350,000 in funds raised in less than two years. He was responsible for working with local, county, and state representatives, and through his lobbying efforts, was able to obtain a $2 million commitment from Governor Tom Corbett and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Construction of the new dam and spillway started in October 2015 and was completed in August 2016.

Siggy is currently leading the GRLC in their mission to obtain additional properties to add to the 150-acre Glade Run Lake Preserve and obtain conservation easements from surrounding properties that have four feeder streams that connect into the lake. He and his executive board are working with numerous groups including the Allegheny Land Trust, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, and the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association to achieve this goal.

Siggy has been an amateur wine maker since 1984, winning a few awards with his wine partners over the years. He enjoys cross-country skiing, running, biking, swimming, canoeing, hiking, yoga, and weight lifting. He has participated in half and full marathons and numerous triathlons over the years, but is now content to just work out. Siggy enjoys antiquing with his wife, whom he has been married to since 1975. They both enjoy traveling, cooking, attending symphony performances, plays, ballets, and operas. They have two children, Siggy Jr. and Elyse, both married, and two grandchildren, Liam Joseph and Isla Grace.
