Susie Salter

Having lived in the Mars Area of Butler County, PA all her life, Susie grew up in the Mars Borough and then moved to Middlesex Township with her husband, John, in 1984. She earned a degree in Economics and Accounting from Edinboro University and coached the Mars Soccer Club for 12 years.
Susie learned to love the outdoors as a young child by spending time at her father's hunting camp in the Allegheny National Forest. It was here that she learned how to fish, and later at her grandmother's farm in Middlesex Township, she learned how to hunt as well. Her love of canoeing can be attributed to being a member of the Mars White Water Club in high school. Along with her husband, they have passed their love of canoeing, kayaking, hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, scouting, and being good stewards of the environment onto their two adult children, Jessica and Luke.

In 2012, Susie joined the Glade Run Lake Conservancy (GRLC) where she coordinates many of the ongoing stewardship projects at the park conducted by local boy scout troops. Susie is most proud of the Eagle Scout Bridge project which opened access to the north shore hiking trail.
When asked about her favorite memory with the GRLC, Susie remarked about the time when the lake was being refilled (after construction of the new dam and spillway had been completed): "On March 8, 2017, I made 5-6 trips to the lake to keep track of how fast the water was rising and trying to figure out when it would crest the spillway. I hoped it was going to happen in the daylight. Around 8:00pm, John and I rallied the other board members and headed for the spillway. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful night; it was warm and moonlit with a slight breeze. Then at 9:04pm, the water crested the spillway and our celebration began."
